Main Function Responsible for participating in all areas of US Federal, US state and local and Canadian indirect tax compliance. Assist in research and planning for the Commodities desk, specifically crude and refined oil trading. Ensure that tax returns are filed accurately and timely. Assist in advising commodities' business and developing planning strategies to minimize the federal, state and local tax expense. Coordinate with accounting the calculation and management and financial reporting of tax provisions. Assist with federal, state, and local tax examinations; including negotiations with auditors and consultation with outside advisors. Handle special projects.
Main Duties Executable:· Providing tax advice to the business · Preparation of all US income, franchise and miscellaneous indirect tax returns for subsidiaries. Involves consultation with various departments within Barclays Capital and with outside consultants. · Develop tax accounting entries · Assist in federal, state, and local tax examinations including coordinating responses to information requests of auditors by obtaining, analyzing and interpreting documentation, and researching and negotiating issues. · Prepare federal excise tax returns. · Prepare state and local tax certifications, including, resale tax certificates, property tax, and gross receipts tax. · Communicate major issues to senior tax management. · Assist in analyzing new federal, state and local tax laws, regulations, rulings and procedures to determine their impact on the group and assist in evaluating the tax effects of various proposals and planning ideas. Supervisory: · Supervise the preparation of state and local estimated tax calculations and returns to optimize the group's tax position and avoid penalties
Person Requirements Essential - BA in Accounting
- 5-7 years post qualified experience in taxation of Commodities (crude oil, refined oil, natural gas) in an accounting environment
- Demonstrative experience in dealing with IT systems including SAP, SRA, and Openlink.
Preferred - CPA
- Knowledge of commodity trading, Canada federal/provincial taxes
- Experience in Financial or Commodities Sector
- Experience with US & Canadian subsidiaries of multinational groups
- 7 years experience
- Experience in a “Big Four” accounting firm (KPMG, E&Y, D&T, or PWC)
