Overview: The Alternatives Capital Group is a newly created global team, with the goal of building a market-leading business to raise capital for best-in class alternative asset managers, leveraging Morgan Stanley’s global institutional relationships in the process. The team will consist of a dedicated 6-Person team (at launch), focused on alternatives fund-raising, including manager origination, product expertise, and distribution. The team will be highly specialized, working closely with hedge funds and other alternative funds to identify best-in-class managers and collaborating with MS sales teams globally to market these managers to institutional investors. The team will have coverage in NY, London, and Hong Kong. Responsibilities: • Work with MS sales teams to help identify and develop relationships with European investors who allocate to alternatives • Understand investor landscape and help sales determine buyer prospects in the region for specific mandates • Identify/ originate best-in-class managers in the region as input to the mandate pipeline • Serve as ‘Product Specialist’ for mandates, including leading dialogue with investors over course of sales cycle • Coordinate distribution efforts in Europe across MS sales teams for mandates • Synthesize feedback from managers, investors, etc into insightful themes and provide input to content on alternatives capital flows • Provide expertise in structure/mechanics of alternatives in client and internal discussions • Identify new business opportunities (e.g. reverse inquiry) and think creatively in this capacity Skills/ Requirements; • Product Expertise - In depth understanding of Hedge Funds and other alternative products. Previous experience in a Hedge Fund due diligence or research role extremely helpful. • Relationship Management - Strong relationship management skills and ability to cultivate relationships with many stakeholders - managers, investors, and internal sales teams • Communication Skills – Strong presentation skills and ability to lead dialogue with potential investors at senior levels • Leadership – Ability to gain buy-in from distribution teams, drive process, and resolve complex issues, given the complexities of European markets, the multiple stakeholders involved, and being the lead team member in the region
