Relationship Manager, European Financial Intermediaries
Position Description:
Wellington Management is one of the world's premier investment management organisations. We are a global, privately owned firm that is 100% focused on managing money for institutional investors and mutual fund sponsors. We are headquartered in Boston with ten affiliate offices in the United States and around the world.
We have a diversified, balanced, and growing business. Our clients are based in over 40 countries - more than one third of them are domiciled outside the US - and in total they have entrusted us to manage over US$450 billion of their assets. On their behalf we manage portfolios focusing on equity, fixed income, currencies, commodities, real assets, and active asset allocation, including hedge fund portfolios.
We are currently seeking to hire an experienced professional to join the London office as a Relationship Manager within the European Financial Intermediaries Group (EFIG). Working as a member of the existing EFIG team, this individual will be responsible for managing and developing mutual fund and redistribution relationships across Europe.
The role will have a dual focus. In addition to the core responsibilities typically associated with relationship management, this role will also work closely with investment personnel to service both mutual funds sales teams and clients ranging from family offices to institutional investors. In this capacity, it is expected that the Relationship Manager will act as portfolio manager proxy for a finite number of investment strategies, as determined by the book of business to be covered.
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in three principal areas:
Interpersonal/Communication Skills • Establish effective relationships with clients; develop strong rapport, and ultimately gain their trust and confidence; demonstrate the ability to set and manage client expectations; ensure a productive working relationship exists at all times; • Establish effective working relationships internally, ensuring all interested parties are appropriately informed of, and involved in, client-related matters; • Demonstrate outstanding written and verbal presentation skills.
Investment Knowledge • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of capital market theory and practice, products (process, strategy, characteristics), and investment process (knowledge of all related functional areas); • Be able to represent the investment views of the firm in both informal and formal settings. Stand in for portfolio managers and other members of the investment process as necessary.
Business Management Skills • Demonstrate the ability to anticipate client needs, issues, and concerns; • Demonstrate strong business judgment, including the ability to synthesize multiple complex issues and effectively balance competing objectives; • Engage the organization appropriately, making sure that all relevant parties and functional groups are informed, involved, and engaged in relationship and business management issues; • Make appropriate determinations of resource usage, and demonstrate an ability to prioritize issues; • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and project management skills; • When necessary, initiate or advocate changes to workflow and organization in order to best meet client and organization objectives.
The successful candidate will:
• Have a minimum of 10 years relevant experience, gained within the European pensions and/or Asset Management arena - mutual fund industry experience would be an advantage; • Have experience of working in multilingual and multicultural organisations, and be able to adapt to the demands of a constantly shifting market environment; • Have strong academic credentials, ideally including a post-graduate and/or professional qualification (e.g. MBA/CFA or equivalent); • Ideally speak at least one other European language in addition to being fluent in English; • Be comfortable with Wellington's consultative approach to marketing/business development; • Be creative, innovative, self-motivated and persistent, in order to cope effectively with the many different challenges that exist in the rapidly expanding European market; • Be a good team player who works well in a small group.
Please note that we are only able to respond to successful applicants.
