Facilitate improvement in operational risk awareness and culture across Macquarie, via the continual refinement and implementation of the OR Framework

Strong prudential management has been a key to Macquarie's success over many years. The Risk Management Group is an independent, centralised unit responsible for assessing and monitoring risks across Macquarie. This includes market and liquidity risk, credit risk, compliance risk and operational risk. Risk Management Group personnel liaise closely with all operating areas to ensure risks are understood and properly managed.

As part of Risk Management Group, the role of Operational Risk in Macquarie is to facilitate the continued improvement in operational risk awareness and culture across the Macquarie Group, through the continual refinement and implementation of the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF). It is the coordinating and central force for operational risk across the Group and must have a confident grip on the risk profile of all our businesses.

As a result of continued growth we are looking for a Managers to join our Operational Risk team.

Purpose of role

This sought after position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your risk skills and experience to implement and further develop Macquarie's Operational Risk strategy. You will be working closely with senior Business and Risk Management Executives both domestically and internationally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing thought leadership, insights and advice to businesses on the best practice for design, measurement, analysis, evaluation and reporting of Operational Risk;
  • Ensuring that risk and control self assessments reflect the risk profile of the businesses, are current and comprehensive;
  • Analysing major incidents across Macquarie, ensuring swift resolution, capturing lessons learnt and sharing them with other businesses;
  • Chairing meetings with 'business experts' to identify extreme loss event scenarios;
  • Determination of scenario parameters used in the calculation of Operational Risk Capital;
  • Driving the implementation of a diverse range of Macquarie-wide projects and requirements for Operational Risk;
  • Developing Macquarie's Operational Risk strategy and culture;
  • Ensuring that risks associated with changes to the internal and external environment in which Macquarie operates are managed appropriately;
  • Responding to requests from various stakeholders including regulators, auditors and Macquarie senior management.

KEY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Tertiary degree in Finance or related area. Relevant postgraduate degrees or professional qualifications (CA, CFA, CPA) are desirable;
  • Significant Operational Risk, Internal or External Audit experience gained within a dynamic international financial institution or financial services firm;
  • Ability to conceptualise, anticipate and articulate emerging issues;
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory environment in which Macquarie operates;
  • The commercial experience and analytical mindset to be able to make sound recommendations on Operational Risk issues;
  • Superior interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with senior management within Risk Management and Business. This will require interaction with personnel across all levels of experience and seniority;
  • The strength of character to be able to discuss risk management issues openly and firmly;
  • Effective presentation skills, including written communication;
  • Proven ability to balance the day to day activity and longer term strategic activities and objectives;
  • Proven ability to sustain high levels of performance under pressure with short deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team of specialists;
  • Effective leadership skills and ability to manage people.
