Manage and develop a team of analysts working on assessing, reporting and approval of all risks deriving from a diverse range of trading businesses.

Strong prudential management has been a key to Macquarie's success over many years. The Risk Management Group is an independent, centralised unit responsible for assessing and monitoring risks across Macquarie. This includes market and liquidity risk, credit risk, compliance risk and operational risk. Risk Management Group personnel liaise closely with all operating areas to ensure risks are understood and properly managed.

The Market Risk Department works closely and engages in ongoing dialogue with senior management and deal teams across all business units to identify relevant market risk issues and opportunities for growth. Central to the Departments operational model is to partner with our businesses on transactions as they arise and where warranted work as an extension of the deal team

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As a key member of the Market Risk team, you will manage and develop a team of analysts assisting in the assessing, approval and reporting of all risks deriving from a diverse range of trading businesses. This sought after position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your risk skills and experience in a commercial role, working closely with Executives from all trading divisions within the Bank and Senior Risk Management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You will review and analyse a diverse range of new business and product proposals and address any market risks, arising from the Australian based trading activities in equities; FX, commodities and interest rates.

Accountable for providing advice and guidance regarding market risk exposures.

Accountable for the assessment and measurement of contingent funding requirements arising from the trading areas (including the impact of market moves).

Day to day oversight, support and management of the team and activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.

Drive the implementation of Macquarie-wide projects and requirements for Market Risk.

Review and develop the banks overall market risk framework

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Australian based trading businesses and other areas of the Risk Management Group

Accountable for keeping abreast of upcoming, new and revised regulations and directives relevant to the business activities and implementing changes as required.

Responsible for preparation and presentation of responses to requests from various stakeholders including regulators, ratings agencies, auditors and Macquarie senior management.

KEY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Tertiary qualified.
  • Significant experience in financial markets gained within a dynamic international financial institution or financial consulting firm.
  • Strong analytical ability and decision making skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a team of staff with a diverse range of experience and skill sets.
  • Proven ability to balance the need to switch between detailed day to day activity and problem-solving versus managing higher level longer term activities and objectives.
  • Proven ability to sustain high levels of performance under pressure with short deadlines.
  • Superior interpersonal skills to build strong relationships within Risk Management and the Trading Groups. This will require interaction with personnel across all levels of experience and seniority.
  • Able to conceptualise, anticipate and articulate emerging issues.
  • Effective presentation skills including strong written communication.
