A Head of IT requirement that will give the successful applicant the opportunity to actively formulate technology strategy for this cutting edge derivatives trading company.

Cutting edge trading firm that specialize in leveraging their knowledge in trading complex products, derivatives, market making, high frequency trading, algo trading, and stat arb / volatility trading, to transform strong potential in Asia into profitable business.

The successful applicant will lead a team of highly technical professionals across IT Infrastructure & Operations, IT Service Support / Delivery, and IT Development. The critical aspects of the role include ensuring that the firm are able to adequately leverage IT to consistently produce stronger trading results (performance, stability and capability), and to prioritise and plan initiatives and manage risks. This role is also mandated to challenge and build the business strategy of the company via technology with the Head of Trading.

The core deliverables of the role include the development of IT services, strategies and projects to deliver best practice IT services and initiatives. In terms of business management, the candidate will also identify and implement IT improvements to maximize efficiencies and produce stronger trading results. A strong knowledge of service management is also critical, and the role requires someone who can ensure that systems are fast and stable, and that service difficulties are resolved quickly and efficiently.

Leadership is critical to the firm in bringing together the disparate subject matter experts currently employed under a streamlined function. The applicants should be able to drives a high performance and innovative culture; to set direction, plans, coordinate, prioritise and coordinates resources, and to effectively motivate, coach and develop team members at a variety of career stages.

Communication skills will be central to the successful delivery of the requirement in ensuring strong interaction and communications occurs between traders and IT. This manager will work closely with global IT partners to prioritize and deliver IT solutions to the business, and ensure that customer needs are being managed, and deliverables achieved. The candidate should also have a holistic view across the firm’s Asia and global business to ensure the right initiatives and priorities are delivered. This will include management of critical projects, coaching teams through the project management cycle (including feasibility, scoping, design, planning and implementation) to ensure project deliverables are met.

Identifying, prioritising and removing/reducing key IT risks within the business, including operational risk, business continuity, confidentiality, information security and recovery plans would be expected from this hire. This will be tied closely to expense / cost control, and the hire will need to continually identify ways to reduce costs, or more cost effectively leverage technologies.

The successful applicant will be a member of the local management team, should actively participate in the local management team to decide on business strategy, setting the overall direction and people strategy for the Hong Kong office. The role should centrally focus on challenging and building the IT strategy of Hong Kong office together with the Head of Trading, and in acting as a key HK representative for the global IT Management team.
